Real estate lending is a cornerstone of most financial institutions and valuing collateral is both a regulatory and credit quality must. This course answers why a valuation is useful, when and what type of valuation is needed, who can perform, and how to value specific real estate types.

CRM_A Consumer Lending School

Consumer lending entails more than just looking at a credit score, especially given the turbulent credit environment. A lender must look beyond the score and objectively judge each credit on a case-by-case basic. Identify sales opportunities with prospects and current clients. Learn how to evaluate credit bureau reports, calculate debt ratios, review personal financial statements, and consider unsecured lending standards using case analysis and classroom discussion.

Loss prevention requires community bankers to maintain a good working knowledge of documentation concepts and proper lien perfection. NCBA Intermediate Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Lending Course

The Intermediate C&I class focuses on operating companies, specifically the balance sheet and its effect on the cash flow statements. Students will learn sources and uses, the cash cycle, and help determine line of credit needs. Also covered are borrower due diligence questions and covenants appropriate for operating companies.

NCBA Intermediate Commercial Real Estate Course

The Intermediate CRE class centers on income producing properties and residential builders. Students learn how net operating income correlates to loan amount and sensitivity analysis for specific property types. Relative to builders, calculating liquidity ratios, managing construction draws, determining sell-out ratios, managing multi-phase projects, and loan repayment trends are discussed.

NCBA Advanced Commercial and Industrial Lending

The Advanced class keys in on specialty loan products like letters of credit and ABL lines and non-traditional borrowers like not-for-profits, municipalities, and professional entities. Participants will dive deeper into use of covenants, problem loan signs, and opportunities for non-recourse loans.

  • Lending to Not-for-Profits
  • Analyzing Religious Organizations
  • Interpreting Municipality Financial Statements
  • Leveraged Lending (Participations and Syndication National Credits)
  • Portfolio Management (Covenants, Risk Rating, etc.)

Final Presentation:
  • Participants will be tasked with analyzing a complex commercial relationship including:
    • Large operating entity with current working capital facility
    • Guarantors with outside investments
    • Included in related entities are commercial real estate investment(s)
    • Relative case data will be included in the final loan package
  • Each participant will have one month to analyze customer data, structure a new loan request, recommend a relationship risk grade, proposal renewal terms for the working capital facility, and finalize an annual review
  • Participant will submit their underwriting package to the instructor one week prior to their presentation
  • Loan presentations will be shared as at the final class in a Board like setting
  • Each student will be awarded a diploma signifying their completion of the North Carolina Bankers Association’s Certified Lender Program.
Who should attend: Any participant who has successfully completed all of the above C&I courses. The class will include a group case study and loan committee presentation simulation. Participants mastering this course will be awarded a diploma signifying their completion of the NCBA Certified Commercial Lender program.
